Did You Hear The Sunrise?
|
In my effort to make this painting especially unique, I incorporated three different new
techniques; acrylic transfer, matte medium for texture and copper metallic glaze.
• On top of the painted background, I have added an acrylic transfer of information I
found online about solar energy and the sun. After finding the information I wanted, I
printed it out, got an old-fashioned photocopy made of it then painted 3 coats of clear
acrylic medium on top. Once all the top layers were dry, I turned the sheets over and wet
the plain paper back with water from a spray bottle. Over and over I used my fingers to
rub off the layers of paper until nothing was left but the text embedded into the (semi)
clear acrylic sheet. I used more gloss medium to adhere the text to the background.
• Then, I used blue-easy release painting tape to create sun "rays" coming out from
behind the cactus blossom. I used a palette knife to scrape matte medium over the tape
and pulled up the tape revealing the “rays” in relief.
• To create depth I painted on a copper glaze, then wiped areas off with cheese cloth. I
also spattered copper glaze radiating out from the center of the blossom.
